Dance of the Endangered Birds

Artist statement

“Dance of the endangered birds” is a project and dance piece organized by the Novi Sad section of the “International Dance council CID-UNESCO”, in cooperation with the organization “Novo kulturno naselje” and co-financed by the City of Novi Sad.

The piece shows the problem of endangered birds of Serbia through contemporary dance expression. It brings awareness about environmental degradation, poaching, habitat disappearance, pesticide poisoning, and other causes which contribute to the extinction of birds.

I was invited to create a series of photos representing a visual narrative for the project. Following the stories of five different birds: Saker falcon; Great bustard; Grey partridge; Common Quail; Glossy Ibis. Every image is dedicated to one of these birds. Through symbols used in each piece, you can discover the cause of extinction.

I’m greatly inspired by this project and also very grateful that I had a chance to create alongside amazing dancers and artists, and all towards a much bigger cause which is saving our environment, nature, and wildlife.
